Women’s Soccer Drops a Heartbreaking Matchup with the Trojans

NEWBERRY, S.C - Women's soccer falls to Anderson 3-1 in the early window of tonight's doubleheader.

In what was supposed to be the wolves playoff gateway, the wolves could not comeback against an early match deficit. With another incredible defensive effort by the supporting cast of Ava Espinoza, Arden Kirkpatrick, Emily Castaneda, Becca Lipp and Alexandra Castellanos, the wolves defensive squad gave yet another intensive game for the opposing offense.

Maintaining the ball on both sides of the field the wolves looked much more refined as they possessed the ball more effectively than their past matchups, thanks to the midfield line of standout senior Jaiyden Jacobs, Jayden Davilla, and young talents Molly Quartly, Sydney Gusewelle and Kirsty Cameron.

The Incredible Taylor Hamblin came into her last match a wolf with one objective in mind… goals. In the 30th minute of the match, stepping in the field for the first time this game, the wolves faces multiple wide shots defensively. Off a clear Hamblin dribbled down the sideline. Drawing the Trojan goalie out of the cage, Hamblin setup a perfect one on one scenario that resulted in a lefty laser to the back right of the net for her first career goal. The cheers from the packed stands sent chills down everyone's spine far greater than the cold evening air.

Playing a strong two-way game, senior Julia Steinbach was just a hair too late on getting the drop on the Trojan keep right down the center of the goal. This would be her only shot on goal in the match, but continued to be a crucial piece in the wolves midfield line.

The second half was another shutout performance by the wolves until the last few seconds. The half saw valiant shots on goal from Arden Kirkpatrick, Becca Lipp and Allyna González. Freshman goal keeper Aubrey Cripe stood tall in the cage again, saving three shots while facing an erratic assortment of shots from the Trojans.

The wolves finish the regular season with a record of 5-11-2 and a conference record of 2-7-2
