MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The two-seeded Newberry College field hockey team will look to play for a championship this weekend at Mount Olive as they will play the Saints of Limestone in the South Atlantic Conference Championship semifinal.
The Wolves defeated Limestone early in the season 2-1 at Setzler Field.
Scouting the Wolves:
- The Wolves enter the postseason with a program record of 14 wins on the season. The Wolves enter the postseason with a record of 14-3 and an 11-3 SAC record. The Wolves defeated Converse 4-0 to finish their regular season.
- The Wolves have three of the top five goal scorers in the SAC in Emma Westbrook, Tamsin Bangert, and Parker Keeler. Westbrook led the conference in the regular season with 21 goals and 46 points. Westbrook's 46 points was one point away from tying the conference record. Bangert led the Wolves with assists on the season with 10 on the season. Keeler was named the South Atlantic Conference Freshman of the Year. Keeler led all freshman in the conference with 12 goals and 29 points.
- The Wolves defense enters the playoffs with two straight shutout victories over Converse and Lander. Freshman goalkeeper Britte Jonker has five shutouts this season. Center back Payton Findlay has three defensive saves eclipsing the school record in career defensive saves.
Scouting the Saints
- The Saints enter the post season ranked third in the South Atlantic Conference. Limestone defeated the Valkyries of Converse 2-1 Tuesday night at Gaffney. Victoria Gonzalez-Lopez scored the game winning goal with just over five minutes remaining in regulation.
- The Saints offense is led by three first team all-SAC members in Zoe Bergmann, Josefina Golppi and Felicitas Herrero Martel. Bergman leads Limestone with 11 goals and 28 points on the season. Golppi has the team's best eight saves on the season. Martel has seven goals and 16 points for the Saints.
- The Saints have goalkeeper Tereza Koprivova. Koprivova has 45 saves and a 9-4 record while giving up an average of 1.83 in the cage for the Saints.
