HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Newberry College field hockey team defeated the Cobras of Coker University Tuesday afternoon 4-2.
Sophomore forward
Emma Westbrook had two goals in the win. Junior forward
Tamsin Bangert had a goal and two assists on the day.
The Wolves got the scoring started in the first quarter as Bangert hit a backhand that got by everything and the keeper to make it 1-0. The Cobras tied it up on a counterattack with little time left in the first quarter.
The Wolves took a two-goal lead in little time as Westbrook scored both of her goals of the day. The first Westbrook goal came off the assist of
Hailey Moore to make it 2-1. Westbrook would score two minutes later on a long ball passed into the circle from Bangert to make it 3-1. The Cobras would score to make it 3-2 before the half.
The Wolves and Cobras would have a scoreless third quarter before
Stembile Chikoore would deflection from a Bangert pass sent on the net to make it 4-2.
The Wolves (10-1, 7-1 SAC) come back home this Saturday, as they will host the Bearcats of Lander at Setzler Field, starting at 1:00 p.m.
