NEWBERRY – The Newberry College field hockey team will be hosting their season finale this Saturday at Setzler Field as they host the Valkyries of Converse University at 2:00 p.m.
The Wolves defeated the Valkyries in Spartanburg 4-0 in the last meeting in late September.
Emma Westbrook and
Parker Keeler both scored two goals in the victory.
Scouting the Wolves
- The Wolves enter this weekend with a 13-3 record and a 10-3 SAC record. Newberry clinched the number two seed and a trip to the semifinals with a 1-0 overtime victory at Lander Wednesday night. Hailey Moore scored the golden goal in the overtime victory.
- The Wolves offensive attack is led by sophomore forward Westbrook, junior forward Tamsin Bangert, and freshman Parker Keeler. Westbrook leads the conference in points with 44 and goals with 20 on the season. Bangert leads the Wolves in the assist column with nine on the season. Keeler has 24 points on 10 goals and four assists.
- The Newberry defense is led by senior center back Payton Findlay. Findlay holds the school record for most career defensive saves with 14. Findlay currently has three defensive saves this season.
Scouting the Valkyries
- Converse will enter the weekend in a tiebreaking situation battling for the five seed in the tournament with Belmont Abbey. Converse has an 8-8 overall record and a 6-7 SAC record. Converse is coming off a 8-0 victory over Lincoln Memorial Tuesday night in Spartanburg.
- The Valkyrie offense is led by junior forward Catalina Pistaccio. Pistaccio has 28 points on 10 goals and eight assists this season. Pistaccio scored a goal and got three assists in the 8-0 victory over Lincoln Memorial Tuesday evening.
- The Converse defense has goalkeeper Kat Daniels. Daniels has 50 saves and two shutouts on the season. Freshman defender Leonoor de Vreugd has the team leading two defensive saves so far this season.
