MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Number ten ranked Newberry College field hockey team will hit the road to face the number four ranked University of Mount Olive Trojans Wednesday at 3:00 p.m., at the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex in Mount Olive.
The Trojans are the lone loss on the season for the Wolves as they defeated Newberry 3-2 late September at Setzler Field. This will be game one of another three-game road trip for the Wolves.
Scouting the Wolves
- The Wolves enter this contest with a 12-1 record (9-1 SAC) after defeating the Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial last Saturday in Setzler Field 6-0.
- The Wolves offense is currently led by the two-time SAC offensive player of the week Emma Westbrook. Westbrook has two single season records for the Wolves with 20 goals and 42 points on the season. Westbrook, along with junior forward Tamsin Bangert, and freshman forward Parker Keeler are three of the top five goal scorers in the SAC.
- On the defensive end, the Wolves rely on their center back Payton Findlay. Findlay is now the all-time leader in career defensive saves with 14. Freshman goalkeeper Britte Jonker is currently 12-1 to start her collegiate tenure.
Scouting the Trojans.
- Mount Olive comes into this Wednesday match with a 12-1 record and an 11-0 SAC record. The Trojans defeated the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey 1-0 on Saturday at the Ray McDonald Sr. Sports Complex.
- The Trojan offense is led by senior forward Avery Congleton. Congleton has 26 points on 10 goals and 6 assists so far this season. Her 10 goals puts her third in the SAC standings behind Bangert and Westbrook for your Wolves.
- On the defensive end for the Trojans, they rely on current SAC defensive player of the week in center back Maud van Duin and Emily Schneider. Van duin was a part of a shut out victory against Belmont Abbey last Saturday. Schneider leads the Trojans in defensive saves with three on the season.
