Wolves Head North to Open Season with 2 Games Against the Crimson Hawks and Griffins

Wolves begin 8th season with two PSAC foes

Newberry, S.C. - The Newberry Wolves Field Hockey Team opens their 2021 campaign with two games on the road in Pennsylvania against PSAC opponents Indiana University of PA (IUP) and Seton Hill University. The Wolves will open the program's 8th season against the hosts, the Crimson Hawks of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, on Friday, September 3rd at 7 PM. After a day off on Saturday, the Wolves face the Griffins of Seton Hill on Sunday, September 5th at 2 PM. Both games will be played on the campus of IUP at George P. Miller Stadium.

Storylines:

  • After a 4-2 shortened 2020 regular season, the Wolves made it to the SAC Tournament Semifinals, losing a hard fought bout with Queens 3-2 ending the season at 5-3.

  • The Wolves return Lily Drury, the 2020 SACC Leader in Goals and Points and SACC Freshman of the Year.

  • The Wolves return Kelli Marshall, Caitlin Wassermann, Lily Drury who picked up First Team All-Conference Selections in 2020. Marshall and Drury were selected to the Preseason All-Conference team.

  • After a 3rd place finish in 2020, the Wolves were picked to finish 4th in the SACC Preseason Poll

  • After the PSAC cancelled fall sports for the 2020-21 academic year, this is the first game the Crimson Hawks have played since November 2nd, 2019, a 2-0 to #3 Kutztown to close their season.

  • The Griffins will play their first game since a November 2nd, 2019 loss to #7 Millersville as they open their season on Thursday at home against Frostburg State prior to playing the Wolves on Sunday. 

  • The Wolves last played IUP in 2019, a 2-0 win for Newberry against the then #10 Ranked Crimson Hawks. 

  • It has been a bit longer since the Wolves and Griffins faced off, Newberry won the first and only meeting between the two sides 2-1 back in 2017.

  • After these two games, the Wolves will head North once again, this time to St. Charles, MO, for two games against Lindenwood and Frostburg State on Friday and Sunday. Both games are slated to be played on the campus of Lindenwood University
