NEWBERRY, S.C. - The Newberry College men's tennis team was unable to win a set during a tough 7-0 loss to no.6 Lander University on Tuesday afternoon.
The Wolves hit the court after a ten day absence after several matches were postponed due to rain. In doubles play, freshman
Enzo Blavignat and senior
Ignacio Garcia de Sola fell 6-1 at first doubles. Junior
Stratas Anastopoulo and his second doubles playing partner sophomore
Marcel Schomburg lost 6-0. Lander won by default at third doubles.
On the singles courts, Blavignat lost 2-6, 2-6 at first singles, and Schomburg lost 0-6, 1-6 at second singles. Coming off a first singles win against Southern Wesleyan on Saturday, Feb. 6, Garcia de Sola lost 3-6 in the first set. He forced a tiebreaker in the second set, but Lander won at third singles, 5-7. Anastopoulo lost 2-6, 1-6 in fourth singles and freshman
Clayton Elder lost 0-6, 0-6 at fifth singles. Again, Lander took a point at sixth singles by default.Â

The men's and women's match on Thursday, February 18 against Queens has been postponed due to weather. The Wolves search for their first win on Friday, February 19 in Tigerville, S.C. against North Greenville at 2 p.m.
