NEWBERRY, S.C. – Two members of the first team in the history of the Newberry College women's triathlon program will do just that, make history, as they head to Tempe, Arizona to take part in two different national events.
Freshman
Becca Hartrick (Auburn Hills, Mich.) will be the first member of the squad to compete at the Collegiate Varsity Nationals on November 13. She qualified for the race based on her fifth-place finish at a national qualifying event at Smith Mountain Lake earlier this year. She is currently ranked 8
th among individuals that are racing in the event hosted by Arizona State University.
While just missing a spot in the Collegiate Nationals race, freshman
Sam Duncan (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) will take part in the Age Group Draft Legal Nationals race, an event being held in conjunction with the Collegiate Nationals event.
"I am extremely excited that my athletes have earned the opportunity to represent Newberry College at Nationals in our first year!" said head coach
Harley Nunan. "It will be a fun event where we will be able to gain valuable experience for the years to come."
Sam will kick off the day of action for the Wolves as she hits the water at 8:30 a.m. to start her race while Becca starts her race 1:15 p.m.
