FLORENCE, S.C. - The Newberry Men's tennis team fell to Francis Marion with a score of 4-2 in the first round of the city of Florence College Tennis Invitational. 

Doubles
The Wolves had a difficult time facing the Patriots, unable to pick up a victory against a very competitive team. Edison Ambarzumjan and Enrico Haas were able to put up a fight in the first set against their opponents but they match went unfinished. Marcel Schomburg and Ignacio Garcia de Soca fell to Patriots duo Brandon Sweeney and Matt Astell by a 6-1 margin. Luca Kirchhoff and Lawerence Friedland were defeated by Liam Day and Mauricio Guerrero, 6-2. 

Singles
The Wolves could not seem to get into a grove as they struggled during singles play as well. Enrico Haas put up a great battle against the Patriot's Will Anth-Forsberg, forcing the match into a third set after a 7-5 win in the second. Anth-Forsberg was able to get the best of Haas in the third resulting in a victory for Francis Marion. It was none other than No. 27 Edison Ambarzumjan who was able to put some points on the board for the Wolves. The senior standout cruised by Brandon Sweeney of Francis Marion by a 6-1,6-2 margin. The Munich, Germany native has been a crucial piece for the Wolves during the fall slate and has continued to do so into the spring season. 

The Wolves will be back in action tomorrow for day two of the City of Florence College Tennis Invitational as they take on Blue Field State.
