NEWBERRY- The Newberry women's soccer team's second half surge propelled them over Spring Hill 3-0 on Friday afternoon at Library Field.
In the first half, the Wolves offense was quiet and out played by the Badgers. Spring Hill outshot Newberry 5-0 including two shots on goal, both of which were saved by sophomore keeper
Delaney Hood.
After the intermission, however, the Wolves would come out firing in all cylinders. Senior forward
Daphne Heyaime got the offense going by taking a shot that went wide two minutes into the half. The Badgers took the ball down the field a few minutes later and took a shot of their own, but saved by junior keeper
Jayleen Gant, after a goalie change in between intermissions.
Starting at the 53rd minute, Newberry took control in the offensive zone and generate a few shots. Heyaime finally broke through after drawing the keeper out, leaving the net wide open to punch a 1-0 lead. Less than five minutes later, the Wolves found the back of the net again with fellow senior forward
Taylor Hiatt scoring.
Newberry scored one last goal in the 77th minute by freshman midfielder
Emma Silva. She records her first career goal after settling a pass from Heyaime in front of a open net.
The Wolves will take on Auburn University of Montgomery on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Eastern.
