NEWBERRY – The Newberry men's tennis team fell to No. 33 Lenoir-Rhyne 5-2 Thursday afternoon at the Oakland Tennis Center.
 
The Wolves (9-12, 3-4 SAC) were able to secure the singles point to start the match off on the right foot. Edison Ambarzumjan and Enrico Haas were able to defeat Shane O'Dea and Mauricio Hernandez with a match score of 6-4. Alex Amble and Lawrence Friedland clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 win over Lewis Scott and Alex Ayguavives.
 
Ambarzumjan got Newberry's other point, defeating Tales Miranda. In the first set, Ambarzumjan was able to get the 6-3 win. In the second set, Miranda made a run at the end but Ambarzumjan came away with the 7-5 set win.
 
Jose Navarro had a closely contested match against Rhodri Atkinson, going to three sets. Atkinson got the first set, winning 6-2 before Navarro came back to win the second set 6-3. In the final set, Navarro fought hard but fell 6-4 to Atkinson.
 
Amble was in a similar situation as Navarro, as he went to three sets as well. Amble came out strong, taking the first set over Lewis Scott, 6-4. Scott came back in the second set, winning 6-2. In the final set, Scott came away with a 10-7 tie breaker to take the match.
