SALISBURY, N.C. – Newberry fell to Anderson by a final score of 10-6 in the opening round of the SAC Championship.
Newberry (29-16) fell behind early as the Trojans (29-20) scored two runs in the first three innings.
Chelsey Cunningham would put the Wolves on the board in the bottom half of the third inning with a solo home run to left field.
The Wolves would then rally to take the lead in the fourth inning as
Haley Simonds connected for a solo homer to right center to tie the game at 2-2.
Hannah Davis followed Simonds with double down the left field line.
Julia Bomhardt would reach on an infield error at second base followed by
Reagan Glanz earning a walk, loading the bases with one out.
Rachel Marion continued the inning as she hit a sacrifice infield fly, giving Newberry a 3-2 lead.
Anderson would respond in the top of the fifth with three runs on three hits, taking the lead back at 5-3. The Wolves wouldn't falter, however, with the top of the order coming up to bat in the bottom half of the inning.

Natalie Willis put two runners on as Simonds connected for her second home run of the game to propel the Wolves back in front, 6-5.
The Trojans responded with five runs in the next inning, taking a 10-6 lead to effectively seal up the win.

The Wolves will wait for the next NCAA Southeast Regional Rankings, scheduled to be released on Wednesday, May 1st. The NCAA will then make selections for the field of 64 teams, eight of which from the Southeast Region, for release on Monday, May 6th. Newberry is currently ranked No. 4 latest regional rankings.
