CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The seventh seed Newberry men's tennis team fell to the second seed Queens 4-0 in the first round of the South Atlantic Conference Tournament Monday afternoon.
The Wolves (11-14, 5-5 SAC) fell behind early in the match, with the Royals picking up the doubles point.
Edison Ambarzumjan and
Enrico Haas had a tough match against the 28th ranked doubles team on Paolo Bompieri and Joel Dunlap by a score of 6-3.
Jose Navarro had a tough singles match as well against Julian Bosch, falling in two sets. IN the first set, Navarro fell by a score of 6-4. Navarro looked to rebound in the second set to prolong the match, but fell by a score of 6-4.
Haas put forth a good effort but fell to Mathias Degardin but fell in consecutive 6-3 sets.
Alex Amble was the final Newberry competitor, squaring off against Dunlap. In the first set, 6-4. Amble was looking to build off his first set but fell 6-1 in the second set.
The Royals closed out the match with wins at the fourth and fifth singles matches.
With the loss, Newberry has wrapped up their 2018-19 season with an overall record of 11-14 and a conference record of 5-5.
