Wolves post impressive finishes in first outdoor meet of the season

McCray places third in men's high jump

CHARLESTON –
The Newberry track and field teams competed at first outdoor meet of the season at the Jim Settle Spring Break Invitational hosted by Charleston Southern on Saturday.

On the Track:
Elijah Fulmore led the way for the Wolves as the freshman placed fourth overall in the men's 110m hurdles with a time of 15.58.

Cameron Henderson came close to cracking into the top-ten of the men's 400m as the freshman placed 11th with a time of 50.87. Henderson also placed 12th in the men's 200m with a 22.39 time. James Gibson placed 14th in the finals of the men's 800m, finishing in 2:07.42.

Jaylyn Dockery also shined as she placed fifth in the women's 100m with a time of 12.65. Tahleebah Martin earned a point for the team as she finished eighth in the women's 400m, finishing in 1:02.92.

Tashayna Flinch narrowly missed out on earning a team point after she finished in a respectable ninth place with a time of 2:43.40 in the finals of the women's 800m. D'arion Johnston placed 10th overall in the women's 200m with a time of 26.54.

In the Field:
Kerron McCray placed third overall in the men's high jump, earning six team points for Newberry with a mark of 1.75m.

Tyrese Grant placed fourth overall in the men's long jump with a mark of 6.25m while Elijah Ngugi placed 10th with a mark of 5.84m.

Johnston picked up a team point for the Wolves after she recorded a mark of 4.88m in the women's long jump to place eighth overall.

Iris Duke placed sixth in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 45.75m. Gari Forehand barely missed out at making it into the top-ten of the women's discus as she placed 11th with a mark of 31.30m.

Malik Morant picked up 2.5 team points in the men's shot put with a tied for sixth mark of 12.36m. Kegan Crowell and Isaiah Parker picked up seven combined team points as the pair placed fifth and sixth in the men's discus with throws of 38.46m and 38.28m respectively.
