Wolves fall to Royals on Senior Day

Newberry finishes the regular season

NEWBERRY - The Newberry women's soccer loses to Queens 2-0 this afternoon at Smith Road Complex

Queens scored the eventual game winner in the 76th minute to give them a 1-0 lead. The ball was played into Newberry's box off a free kick. It bounced around with multiple players trying to settle it to either take a shot or clear the ball. The Royals were able to get a shot off and find the back of the net, beating the Wolves keeper to the right.

The Royals put the finishing touches on the match by adding one last goal. In the 89th minute, Queens were on a free kick where the ball was played into the box. A Royals player was standing five yards from net, where she headed the ball into the left side of the net. This gave Queens a 2-0 advantage with a little over a minute left in the match.

In the first half, Queens had the early momentum in the match. Newberry defense was constantly being tested by the offensive attack but they were able to keep Queens off the board in the first half. In the second half, Newberry started to turn the tables and started to go on the offense. They were the team that maintained control of the ball in Queens territory.

The Wolves were unable to find the back of the net with any of their shots.

Newberry now waits and see where they potentially place in the South Atlantic Conference tournament.
