BARBOURVILLE, KY. – The Newberry Wolves men's soccer team loses 3-1 to conference opponent Lincoln Memorial on Sunday afternoon.
Just under three minutes into the match, the Railsplitters got on the board first. Lincoln Memorial's Hunter Stroble took a shot and beat Newberry's keeper to the left. This gave them the early 1-0 lead.
A little over four minutes later scored, at the time the equalizer. Junior
Vojin Manojlovic had the ball in the midfield dribbling into Railsplitters territory. Manojlovic then passed the ball up to
Troy Paul. The sophomore got the ball and made a few touches into open field before taking his shot. His 20 yard shot went in toward the back right corner to tie the match.
With just 1:15 left in the first half, Lincoln Memorial score again to go up 2-1 before the half. The Railsplitters were on the attack when they shot which looked like it was going wide. The shot then deflected off a Newberry player and found the back of the net.
The Railsplitters put the finishing touches on the match by scoring late. In the 79th minute they got another goal to put themselves up 3-1, which proved to be the final score.
The Wolves had multiple chances to score the equalizer, when it still read 2-1 as the score. Newberry out shot Lincoln Memorial by a total of 15 to 8, with 8 and 6 being on frame respectively. One of their best chances came in the 68th minute when junior
Tre Bonaparte took a shot. Bonaparte had the ball and dribbled by the right side line, beating two defenders along the way. He took his shot about 10 yards out toward the near post, but the Railsplitters keeper saved the ball.
The Wolves will be back at home on October 30th to play Shaw at 7:30 p.m.
