CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens Royals (1-1, 1-0 South Atlantic Conference Carolinas) defeated Newberry (2-2, 1-2 South Atlantic Conference Carolinas) on Saturday afternoon during a conference matchup, prevailing by a score of 5-2.
The Wolves started the game strong with two goals from midfielder Farai Kawonde, pushing Newberry out to a 2-0 lead for much of the first half; however, the Royals would manage to strike back just before halftime, carrying some momentum into the break.
That momentum would prove advantageous, as the Royals outshot the Wolves 11-1 in the second half, as well as earning eight corners to Newberry's one. Queens was able to capitalize, scoring four second half goals, including two off of corners.
Despite jumping out to a quick lead, the Wolves didn't manage to find their attack on the day, putting up four shots while the Royals put up 20.
Newberry will return home to face the Converse Valkyries in a conference matchup on Wednesday, September 8.
