MOUNT OLIVE- The Newberry men's soccer team played to a physical scoreless draw with the Mount Olive Trojans on Sunday evening at Amon Field. With the tie, Newberry moves to 1-0-1 on the season.
The Wolves once again played short-handed after a red card in the 25th put the Wolves down a man for the rest of the match. Mount Olive also received a red card in the 76th minute. Both sides combined for over 40 fouls on the night.
Freshman
Ibrahim Nadir continued to attack the goal, having four shots on goal during the match.
Sam Ottley and TJ Paul also recorded two shots on goal apiece.
Goalkeeper
Brad Dixon earned his first shutout of the season, tallying 11 saves on the day. The senior has earned five shutouts and eight games with double digit saves in his career at Newberry.
"We put ourselves in a difficult position again by going down a player" head coach
Bryce Cooper stated. "We have to be more disciplined and show more restraint with our emotions.
"All that said I was really proud of the resiliency and grittiness showed by our team. Anytime you get a shutout on the road against a good side is a positive. We'll have another quick turnaround and will need to be ready for a tough USC Aiken side on Tuesday."
The Wolves return home for a matchup against USC Aiken on Tuesday, September 4
th. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. at the Smith Road Complex.
