SALISBURY, N.C. – The Newberry women's soccer team fell 4-1 to Catawba on Wednesday evening at the Frock Soccer Complex. The Wolves move to 3-2-0 overall and 0-0-1 in SAC games this season.
The Wolves started strong with shots by
Daphne Heyaime and
Deisi Hernandez early into the game, but didn't score until a goal by sophomore
Jacqueline Aldrete in the second half.
The Oxnard, Calif. native, who leads the team in assists this season, took a shot at the Catawba goal from 25 yards out in the 64th minute. The ball slipped through the Catawba goalkeeper's hands and Aldrete secured her first career goal and put Newberry on the board.
Unfortunately, Catawba had built a lead scoring on two corner kicks and added two more goals in the second half which ultimately put the game out of reach for the Wolves.
The Saturday, September 15 men's and women's soccer conference games between the Newberry Wolves and the Carson-Newman Eagles have both been postponed due to inclement weather.
Both Newberry and Carson-Newman are working together to reschedule both the men's and women's matches at the first available opportunity. The teams may play a doubleheader or may choose to schedule the men's and women's matches separately.
The Wolves instead look to next week when they host Anderson on Wednesday, September 19th. Kickoff is set for 12:30 pm at the Smith Road Complex.
