NEWBERRY—The Flagler Saints overpower Newberry 5-0 on Friday afternoon during a nonconference matchup at the Smith Road Complex.
Flagler (3-0) maintained their assertiveness throughout against Newberry, scoring their first goal in the fifth minute and never letting up. This goal set the tone for the match, with the Saints adding another nine minutes later and scoring three times after the intermission.
Newberry (1-2) struggled to get its offense going, falling behind 10-3 in shots at the half. The Wolves were markedly more aggressive in the second half, however, with half of their eight shots in the final 45 minutes on target and earning a pair of corner kicks. Newberry was led by Jacqueline Aldrete off the bench, who totaled two shots on goal and three shots overall in nearly 70 minutes off the bench. Three other Wolves tallied shots on target.
The Wolves stay at home to face another nonconference foe in the Fighting Knights of Lynn University on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 1:00 p.m.
