Newberry shut out by LMU 6-0

HARROGATE, Tenn. - The Wolves were knocked off by the Railsplitters of Lincoln Memorial Saturday afternoon in a tough 6-0 loss.


Lincoln Memorial (6-2-2, 2-2-2 SAC) went on the attack from the outset, launching the first goal of the contest in the first two and a half minutes. Andres Pratto passed to an open Danilo Da Silva from the 15-yard line. An effort from Fabrizio Bucco that was saved by goalkeeper Caleb Cothrin. Da Silva would go on to lead the Railsplitters with a hat trick and an assist in the 68th minute off of a header.


Newberry goalkeeper Brad Dixon recorded three saves in the contest. The junior from Wakefield, England ranks amongst the top four in the conference in saves. Newberry tallied nine shots in the match, six of which were on frame. Claus Lehland led the team with two of his three shots being on target.


"We were outplayed today in almost every facet of the game. Congrats to LMU on a great performance. We will see what we are truly made of after this one, and if we have the grit and fight it takes to overcome these types of setbacks," stated head coach Bryce Cooper.


The Wolves will be back in action on Wednesday as they return to Smith Road Complex on Oct. 11 to take on Mount Olive at 4 p.m.
