NEWBERRY – Newberry conceded 1-0 in a very methodical defensive battle against conference opponent Limestone on Friday night.

The Wolves (6-10, 3-5) heightened their defense in this match against the Saints (13-2, 9-1) who lead the conference in almost every category, scoring and defense. Goalkeeper Allison Davis notched five saves seeing a total of 13 shots and 10 penalty corners.

Newberry played the majority of the first period on Limestone's end of the field but the pack was able to keep a very hot Saints team scoreless. In the concluding moments of the first half, Limestone put up two shots from Kelly Diplock that were both wide left of the goal.

Coming out of the half the Wolves opened up their offense seeing three shots and taking three penalty corners. Newberry increased their offensive tenacity but were ultimately unable to connect on penalty corners initiated by Kristyna Oyola in the waning minutes of the game. Farai Kawonde was the recipient of the first corner forcing Limestone keeper, Delaney Gitt to save the shot.

Mariah Lee garnered the final two offerings from Oyola with both attempts passing wide beyond the goal.

Limestone's Kate Norman prevented overtime, scoring in the final minute from five yards out to the right side of the goal.

Newberry honored their two seniors tonight in forward, Olivia Fraunfelter, and goalkeeper, Dakota Elzy.

The Wolves will travel to Louisville, Ky. to take on conference foe Bellarmine on Friday, Oct. 27 at 11 a.m.
