Box Score SPARTANBURG- The Newberry College men's soccer team was defeated by Southern Wesleyan University, 3-2, Wednesday afternoon at the Upward Star Center.
The Warriors got the first goal of the game from Ivan Malagon at the 32:01 minute mark. Newberry answered nine minutes later with a goal by Davis Bryan hitting a rocket off a pass from Mario Stojkoski.
Leaving the first half, the score was tied at 1-1. Halfway through the second half (68:30) Southern Wesleyan scored for a 2-1 lead. Ivan Malagon scored his second goal of the game off a corner kick by Marcelo Vargas.
Newberry tied the game (2-2) six minutes later off a breakaway goal from Lucas Ferreira.
The Warriors' Sebastian Castro scored their third and final goal at the 86:52 mark off a through ball from Keegan Wilkinson.
For the game, Brad Davis made six saves in goal for the Wolves. Newberry took 13 shots (seven on goal) compared to Southern Wesleyan's 14 shots.
The Wolves are back home on Saturday, October 3, for a 3:30 p.m. game against Tusculum.
