Shirley, N.Y. – Newberry fell short to Dowling in a non-conference matchup this afternoon at Golden Lions Field by a score of 0-3

The Wolves entered today’s game with a record of 1-4 as well as Dowling whose record was 1-4 before today’s game. Dowling scored all three goals in the second half.

Each team had plenty of chances in the first half. Courtlyn Warren had a shot blocked off a penalty corner by Olivia Fraunfelter at the 5:53 minute mark. Dowling also had chances but Wolves goalie Dakota Elzy saved most of them.

The second half started off with an early goal by the Lions. Zoe Norton scored her third goal of the season at the 41:11 giving Dowling a 1-0 lead early in the second half. Eight minutes later Justine DeLuca scored her first goal of the year with a cross from the far side of the field. The next 18 minutes went by with each team getting chances but neither could find the back of the net. Zoe Norton scored her second goal of the game at the 67:56 minutes mark with the assists from Shannon McGuinness giving Dowling the 3-0 win.

Caitlyn Warren had four shots, two of them being on goal for the Wolves. Meghan Smiga, Hannah Collins and Victoria Corriston each had a shot on goal. Dakota Elzy had 11 saves. The Wolves as a team had eight shots, five on goal while tallying 11 corners.

Dowling had 20 shots, 15 shots on goal and tallied 14 corners. Ariana Ovadia had three saves while the team had two saves.
