Box Score

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The Newberry Wolves conceded a goal in the early stages of each half and were painfully close to evening the score on multiple chances before falling 2-0 to the Lindenwood Lions in both team's ECAC Division II Field Hockey League opener at Hunter Stadium on Friday night.

Newberry (0-3, 0-1 ECAC) plays Division III Hendrix on Sunday afternoon at Lindenwood in its next action.

The Lions scored inside the first three minutes of each half, but Newberry had chances at tying twice in the first half. Kaitlyn Willard put a shot off the post in the 21st minute and a 32nd minute flurry of shots were poked away by the LU goalkeeper. Dakota Elzy made three saves in the first half, including a save on a penalty stroke.

After LU took the lead to 2-0 early in the second half, Elzy kept the Wolves in the game with four more saves, and a Lions' shot went off the post. Newberry got three shots off in the second half, but two went wide and another was saved.

Newberry finished the game with eight shots, while Lindenwood took 13. Elzy made a total of seven saves.
