Playoff Time

NEWBERRY – The Newberry Wolves field hockey team (3-13 overall and 0-6 ECAC) hits the road this weekend to start the conference tournament at Trager Stadium in Louisville, Ky.

Newberry played Limestone twice this year in the regular season losing both games by a combined score of 10-2. On September 18, the Wolves hosted no. 6 Limestone in their second conference game. Newberry fell by a score of 6-1. Caitlyn Warren scored the lone goal for the Wolves early in the first half.

Limestone had goals from six different players. The first goal came in the first 34 seconds of the game off of Stemeni Zhanda. The second goal from the Saints came at the 16:28 minute mark when Allyson Meyer scored off a pass from Cassidy Coates. 14 minutes later came their next goal from Brittany Carney. Those goals rounded out the first half with Newberry down 3-1.

The second half opened with the Saints scoring at the 46:49 minute mark off the stick of Jill Funkhouser. Less than a minute later the Saints scored again at the 47:57 minute mark when Anna Walmsley scored off a pass from Jill Funkhouser. Five minutes later Kate Norman scored the last goal at the 53:42 minute mark to make the score 6-1.

The second game started out with all Limestone scoring. The Saints scored all four goals in the first half. Jill Funkhouser scored two goals, first goal at the 4:43 minute mark and the second goal at the 19:14 minute mark. Stembeni Zhanda scored at the 3:39 minute mark while Jess Waszczak rounded out the scoring for the Saints when she scored at the 27:09 minute mark.

Newberrys lone goal came off the stick from Courtlyn Warren at 62:03 in the second half. The Saints were ranked no.10 at the time and won the game 4-1.

RECORDS: Newberry is 3-13 after a 2-1 loss at Sewanee in the last regular season game. Lindenwood is 9-6 after a 1-0 loss at Mercyhurst University on Oct. 31.
