Men's soccer fall to Anderson despite early lead

ANDERSON- Despite a 2-0 lead, the Newberry College men’s soccer team fell to Anderson University, 3-2, on Thursday afternoon.

The Wolves were the first to get on the board from Bennett Murphy’s goal six minutes into the game. Sterling Wendt had a long throw to Dillon Pelton who then found Murphy open in the box.

The score (1-0) stayed in Newberry’s favor throughout the first half.

The Wolves scored their second goal of the game just seven minutes into the second half. Lucas Ferreira kicked a long ball to Cammy Provan who found the back of the net.

Anderson got on the board three minutes after Newberry’s second goal to cut the lead to, 2-1. Andre Carle beat Brad Dixon sending the ball far post for the goal.

The Trojans kept the momentum going with Hodaka Yonezawa scoring their second goal off a cross by Carle. Anderson’s Lars Kaula scored the final goal of the game with just nine minutes left.

For the game, Anderson outshot Newberry, 30-8. Dixon made six saves in goal for Newberry.

The Wolves are on the road again at Lincoln Memorial on Saturday, October 10 for a 3:30 p.m. start.
