Wolves fall to No. 1 Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Millersville Marauders (11-0) beat Newberry College (2-7) by a score of 4-0 Sunday afternoon at Biemesderfer Stadium.

Newberry beat Bloomsburg who is number five in the country yesterday but fell today to Millersville who is number one in the country.

The first half was all Millersville as they took nine shots and had six penalty corners. The first goal of the game came from Aliza Mizak for her fifth of the year at the 16:19 minute mark. The second goal came four minutes later at the 20:10 minute mark when Millerville Jessica Beard got a pass from Margaret Thorwart which let Beard beat the Wolves keeper with a shot from the top of the circle. The Wolves would get only two shots off in the game, both coming in the first half. The first shot came at the 29:43 minute mark when Hanna Collins took a shot that got blocked down. Caitlyn Warren also got a shot off at the 31:15 minute mark but the shot was wide left.

Millersville controlled the second half as well. Newberry didn’t get a shot off in the half. The Wolves goalkeeper Dakota Elzy saw a lot of action at her end of the field as she faced 12 shots in the second half. Millersville tallied 14 penalty corners in the half as well which gave them a total of 20 penalty corners for the game. Aliza Mizak scored her second goal of the game, sixth for the season at the 45:50 minute mark. 15 minutes later Tyler Bethke scored a goal of her own at the 60:31 minute mark when Robyn Spatichia redirected a pass to Bethke in the center which lead Bethke to the easy goal. Millersville took the 4-0 lead to give them the win.

Newberry will head to Louisville, Ky. on October 10 to take on Bellarmine at 1 P.M.
