Wolves break streak against Mercy

NEWBERRY – Newberry College (3-10) beat Mercy College (6-7) Sunday morning at Setzler Field by a score of 2-0.

The Wolves scored one goal in each half. Meghan Smiga scored the first goal of the game at the 28:44 minute mark when she grabbed a rebound off a penalty corner and put the ball in the back of the net. Kaycie Andrew scored the second goal at the 47:59 minute mark off a scramble at the goalmouth. Victoria Corriston picked up the assist on the goal to put the Wolves up 2-0 mid way through the second half.

Mercy College took two shots; both were wide of the goal. Julia Amell took the loss for Mercy as she notched 13 saves in the losing effort. The Mavericks tallied seven penalty corners while Alicia Willams and Jackie Ballin each took a shot in the mid-morning match.

The Wolves tallied 25 shots, 15 on goal and took five penalty corners.  Kaycie Andrew led the way for Newberry with eight shots while Meghan Smiga took seven and Courtlyn Warren took five shots. The Wolves took five penalty corners.
