Box Score NEWBERRY- The Newberry College women’s soccer team dropped to Queens University of Charlotte, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon.
Morgan Powers took a shot on goal but it was saved Queens’ goalie 13 minutes in. Powers took another shot six minutes later but it was blocked by a Queens defender.
Newberry got onto the board 28 minutes into the game. Michelle Calmeyn scored a header off a pass from Guadalupe Magana.
The Wolves kept the 1-0 lead until the 43:52 mark when Alana Jefferson tied the game for Queens.
Going into the second half, the game was tied at 1-1. Rachelle Serrano hit a shot 10 minutes in but it was wide left. Serrano hit another shot five minutes later but it was saved by the opposing goalie.
Queens took the lead (2-1) in the 68th minute when Charlotte Ring scored off a deflection pass from Kayla Washabaugh.
Newberry only got one more shot off before the end of the game but couldn’t connect the ball into the goal.
For the game, Newberry took 12 shots with four on goal. Rebecca Darley made four saves in goal for the Wolves.
The Wolves are home again on Wednesday, October 21 against Brevard. The game will start at 12:30 p.m.
