Box Score KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Junior forward Kaycie Andrew tallied two more goals in Newberry College’s loss to the Kutztown Bears, 6-3, on Friday night at University Field.
Anna Behm put the Bears on the board 3:04 into the match off an assist from Madison Wampler. Both teams were deadlocked for the next 13 minutes as each side exchanged attempts on goal, until Madeline Dworak converted on a backhand goal to give the Bears a 2-0 lead.
The two goal lead was short-lived as Andrew found the back of the cage for her fifth of the season, to put the Wolves on the board, 2-1.
Newberry fended off a couple of shots from the Bears before Courtney Konowal potted her first goal of the season to regain the two goal advantage for Kutztown. The Bears added another just before halftime to take a 4-1 lead after the first 35 minutes.
Kutztown added to its lead 75 seconds into the second half, off a goal from Madison Stewart. Newberry goalkeeper Mary Greco powered through more chances from Kutztown before being substituted for goalkeeper Dakota Elzy.
The Bears took a 6-1 lead off a goal from Megan Tiwold, her first of the year.
With under ten minutes remaining, the Wolves scored their second goal of the match. Sophomore Courtlyn Warren buried a slap shot from 10 meters away off an assist from her sister, Caitlyn Warren.
The dynamic duo from Tuesday’s historic victory connected again for Newberry’s third goal of the night. Meghan Smiga found Andrew for her second of the night, sixth of the year, to pull the Wolves closer at 6-3.
Following her four assist performance on Tuesday, Smiga tallied another assist today bringing her season total to five.
Newberry plays again Sunday afternoon as they travel down Highway 222 in Pennsylvania to take on No. 1 ranked Millersville at 1 p.m. from Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium.
