Caitlyn Warren, Carly Lutz score in Newberry's loss to Bellarmine

NEWBERRY - The Newberry Wolves had a great start in Sunday's field hockey match against the Bellarmine Knights, but the visitors went on a run before the half and went on to take down Newberry 10-2.

The Wolves scored two first half goals, with Caitlyn Warren (Richmond, Va.) scoring off of a penalty corner on assists from Courtlyn Warren (Richmond, Va.) and Kaitlyn Willard (Stevensville, Md.) in the 14th minute.

After a BU goal on a penalty stroke, the Wolves tied the match back up at 2-all in the 25th minute on the first collegiate goal by Carly Lutz (Eldersburg, Md.), with Caitlyn Warren picking up the assist.

From there, the Knights scored three goals before the half and picked up another five in the second half as BU turned up the offensive pressure. Bellarmine was led by a hat trick from Brittany Raque.

Goalkeeper Morgan Downey (Millersville, Md.) absorbed the pressure well, making 12 saves with eight in the second half.

Newberry is now 0-5 on the season and hosts Mercy (N.Y.) at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 5.
