Box Score

NEWBERRY - A pair of opportune goals by the Tusculum Pioneers sunk the Newberry women's soccer team on Saturday as the Wolves fell 2-0 at home on senior day.

Tusculum (9-6-3, 7-2-2 SAC) took an early lead in the 11th minute as the Wolves (9-8, 5-6 SAC) surrendered a goal to Carly Whitman. Whitman's goal came in a scrum outside of the goal mouth off an assist from Amy Morford.

The Pioneers netted a second goal in the 55th minute when Taylor Lewis finished a cross from Monica Perez inside the 18-yard box.

Newberry fought for the remainder of the second period, outshooting the Pioneers 6-4, but saw none of their chance beat Tusculum keeper Marisssa Williams.

Junior Breanna Naranjo (Oxnard, Calif.) led the Wolves with five shots.

Newberry honored seniors Ashley Reetz (Charleston, S.C.) and Lauren Singleton (Charleston, S.C.) before Saturday's match.

With the conclusion of the regular season the Wolves next take the pitch on Tuesday as Newberry travels to Wingate for the quarterfinals of the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women's' Soccer Championship.
