Wolves edged by Mansfield in regular season finale, 5-3

Box Score

NEWBERRY - The Newberry Wolves had one of their best combined defensive and offensive efforts in the second half of Saturday's regular season finale, but the Mansfield (Pa.) Mountaineers defeated the scarlet and gray, 5-3.

The Wolves conceded five goals to the Mounties in the first half, but came alive in the second half. The defense shut the guests out, while the offense outshot MU by an 8-7 margin.

In the 53rd minute, Kaitlyn Willard (Stevensville, Md.) poked in a goal on an assist from Karissa Dodson (Glen Burnie, Md.) to cut the lead to 5-1.

In the 61st minute, Caitlyn Warren (Richmond, Va.) scored on a penalty stroke and then scored again in the 63rd minute on a breakaway with Willard assisting. Unfortunately for Newberry, the clock ran out before any more damage could be done.

Morgan Downey (Millersville, Md.) made 12 saves, while Talya Stocksdale (Pasadena, Md.) had a defensive save.

Newberry is 0-13 entering the Independent Schools Alliance Tournament at Lindenwood in Missouri next weekend.
