Wolves drop season finale to Bellarmine in consolation match at ECAC Tournament

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The Newberry College field hockey team wrapped up its inaugural season Sunday with a 9-1 loss to the Bellarmine Knights in the consolation match of the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division II Field Hockey Invitational at Lindenwood University's Hunter Stadium.

Bellarmine went up by six goals at halftime, outshooting Newberry 21-1 in the period.

The Wolves scored the first goal of the second half in the 52nd minute when Alisha Locklear (Glen Burnie, Md.) scored her first career goal on an assist from Kaitlyn Willard (Stevensville, Md.). Unfortunately for Newberry, the Wolves could only manage one more shot on goal as BU scored three more times.

Morgan Downey (Millersville, Md.) made 14 saves in the match, upping her season total to 180. Caitlyn Warren (Richmond, Va.) completed the season as the team's leading scorer with eight goals and four assists for 20 points. Willard and Courtlyn Warren (Richmond, Va.) scored five goals in the season.

Newberry completes its first year with an 0-15 record.
