Will notches first career tally in Wolves' 3-1 loss to No. 11 Bears

HICKORY, N.C. - Newberry freshman Jessica Will scored her first collegiate goal on Saturday as the Wolves fell 3-1 to the No. 11 Lenoir-Rhyne Bears.

The top ranked team in the Southeast Region, Lenoir-Rhyne (11-3-1, 7-1-1 SAC), opened the scoring in the 21st minute as Garcelle Alequine scored off an assist from Emmi Dunn. Lenoir-Rhyne doubled its lead over the Wolves (8-7, 5-5 SAC) in the 28th minute as Ariel Dominguez headed in the second goal of the game for the Bears.

The Wolves answered the Bears in the 30th minute when Will (Leesville, S.C.) saw her shot from 10 yards out deflect off a Lenoir-Rhyne defender and into the goal for the freshman's first career goal. Lenor-Rhyne followed up Will's tally with eight shots in the final 15 minutes of the opening half.

The second half opened with more attacking soccer for the Bears as Dominguez completed the brace in the 55th minute to give Lenoir-Rhyne a 3-1 lead.

Lenoir-Rhyne continued to control the possession in the second period as the Bears outshot the Wolves 13-1 in the second period. Lenoir-Rhyne outshot Newberry 28-4 on the afternoon.

Wolves' sophomore goalkeeper Rebecca Darley (Wolcott, Conn.) recorded nine saves on the afternoon.

Newberry next heads to Gaffney for a Tuesday showdown against Limestone at 3 p.m.
