Box Score

HARTSVILLE - Senior Christian Ortiz netted his second goal of the season off an assist from freshman Jalin Butler in Newberry's 6-1 loss on the road against Coker.

Newberry (1-13-1, 1-7-1 SAC) fired off the first shot of the evening, but in the 34th minute saw Coker (6-5-2, 4-4-1 SAC) capitalize on an attempt. An assist from Matt Taylor earned Chris Martin the first goal of the match to give the Cobras a 1-0 lead. Coker managed to hold onto the ball for the remainder of the first period to head to halftime with a one goal advantage.

Coker opened the second period with a bang as Daniel Jackson netted his ninth goal of the season only two minutes into the second half. The 49th minute saw Newberry get on the scoreboard as Butler (Columbia, S.C.) found Ortiz (Atlanta, Ga.) for the seniors' second goal of the year.

The next 15 minutes did not provide much action for either team, but in the 66th minute the action picked up for Coker as Jordan Snell extended the Cobras' lead to 3-1. The 74th minute saw Tony Quiroz push the score to 4-1, before Caleb Fenner and Noah Gulley scored in the 85th and 88th minutes, respectively. Fenner and Gulley's tallies helped secure Coker's 6-1 victory over the Wolves.

Sophomore Bennett Murphy (Hilton Head, S.C.) led the Wolves with a pair of shots, while Ortiz, Butler and senior Brady Francis (Aiken, S.C.) each tallied a single shot.

Newberry is scheduled to travel to Hickory, N.C. on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. showdown with the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears.
