HARTSVILLE - Junior Amber Sanchez led Newberry with three shots, placing two on frame, in the Wolves' 1-0 loss to the Coker Cobras.
Coker (4-10-1, 1-7-1 SAC) took to the attack early, but saw its first three attempts sail wide of the goal frame. The 17th minute saw Sanchez (Tujunga, Calif.) test Coker's Lizz Morris for the first time, before the Newberry (8-6, 5-4 SAC) midfielder challenged Morris again in the 20th minute.
The first half saw the Wolves outshoot the Cobras 6-4, with five of the shots placed on frame as Morris tallied five first half saves.
The second period opened with a 47th minute shot by Newberry junior Ashley Rodriguez (Oxnard, Calif.), which was turned away by Morris. The nations saves leader was tested again ten minutes later as junior Gabrielle Brodie (Rolleston, Canterbury, New Zealand) was also turned away by Morris. The 66th minute saw the games' lone goal as Coker's Jordan Roy scored off an assist from Danielle Goerler.
The Wolves were unable to answer Roy's tally as the final two shots of the game for Newberry sailed wide of the goal.
Sanchez led the Wolves with three shots, while Brodie managed two on the evening. Newberry sophomore Rebecca Darley (Wolcott, Conn.) recorded four saves in the loss.
The Wolves next travel to Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday for a scheduled 1 p.m. start.
