NEWBERRY - Freshman Mario Stojkoski scored his first collegiate goal, while fellow freshman Anthony Lucido recorded his first career assist in Newberry's 3-1 loss to Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday.
Stojkoski (Skopje, Macedonia) hit a shot off a half-volley from outside the six-yard box on a long throw from Lucido (Lakeland, Fla.). Stojkoski's goal came in the fourth minute and is the quickest goal for the Wolves this season.
Newberry (2-5-1, 0-3-1 SAC) saw its lead slip away in the 26th minute when Tobias Tobrant one timed a misplaced Newberry pass into an empty goal for the Bears' (3-4-2, 1-2-1 SAC) first goal of the match. A little over ten minutes after the Bears' first goal they saw a second cross the goal line when the Wolves surrendered an own goal in the 38th minute.
The final strike of the match came in the 84th minute when Mattias Thompson scored his first goal of the season off a low cross from Mehmet Karakilinc to give the Bears a 3-1 lead.
Both teams finished the day with 17 shots and six saves, while the Wolves finished the day with a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Newberry plays again at home on Wednesday when North Greenville travels to Newberry for a 4 p.m. non-conference meeting.
