Chase tallies in Wolves' 3-1 loss to No. 22 Bears

NEWBERRY - Despite a late goal from senior Amber Chase the Newberry women's soccer team was unable to rebound from a trio of Lenior-Rhyne goals as the No. 22 Bears topped the Wolves 3-1.

The Wolves (7-1, 4-0 SAC) endured a 13 shot onslaught for most of the opening half, but the Bears (7-1, 4-0) pounced on a loose ball in front of the goal in the 20th minute when Ariel Dominguez tapped in the first goal of the match.

Lenoir-Rhyne struck again in the 49th minute when Leah Mullins volleyed a shot on a corner kick. The Bears third and final goal came in the 70th minute when Emmi Dunn rocketed in a shot from just inside the 18-yard box.

Newberry avoided the shutout in the 89th minute when freshman Brittany Singleton (Canton, N.C.) slotted a pass across the goal mouth that was tapped in finished from just inside the six-yard box by Chase (Aiken, S.C.).
Singleton's assist was the first of her career.

Newberry was outshot by Lenoir-Rhyne 21-4, while Wolves freshman goalkeeper Rebecca Darley (Wolcott, Conn.) recorded nine saves.

The Wolves next take to the pitch on Tuesday when Newberry travels to Due West for a 7 p.m. non-conference match at Erskine.
