Singleton's second half strike gives Wolves 1-0 victory

BREVARD, N.C. - For the second straight game freshman Brittany Singleton found the back of the net for the Newberry women's soccer team as the Canton, N.C.-native scored the game winning goal as the Wolves topped the Tornados 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

The Wolves (7-7-3, 2-4-2 SAC) controlled the possession for a majority of the opening half, as Newberry outshot Brevard (1-14-2, 0-7-1 SAC) 8-0. The Wolves also out earned the Tornados 4-1 in corner kicks.

Newberry opened the second half on the attack, finding itself subject to an offside call in the 49th minute. In the 55th sophomore Gabrielle Brodie (Rolleston, Canterbury, New Zealand) took the Wolves' first shot of the half, before the two squads exchanged shots for the next few minutes.

In the 64th minute Singleton scored on a far post look giving the Wolves a 1-0 lead. Singleton's goal was her second of the season.

The second half saw Newberry outshoot Brevard 12-2, but place only two shots on frame.

Newberry sophomore goalkeeper Morgan Cox (Perth, Western Australia, Australia) made one save as she recorded her third clean sheet of the season. The Australian's clean sheet puts her alone at No. 5 in the Newberry career record book for goalie shutouts.

The Wolves wrap up the regular season with a Senior Day home conference match against Lincoln Memorial at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
