Goals by Miller, Brodie earn Wolves win at Mars Hill

Box Score

MARS HILL, N.C. - On goals by a pair of freshmen late in the match, the Newberry Wolves picked up a 2-0 road victory against Mars Hill.

Newberry (6-2-0, 3-0 South Atlantic Conference) controlled much of the first half and outshot the Lions (5-4-1, 1-2-0 SAC) 5-2 in the first half, but the Wolves were unable to beat Mars Hill goalkeeper Chelsea Parker.

The second half was more of the same until the 76th minute when freshman Brayden Miller (Greenville, S.C.) gained control of the ball in the corner on the Wolves attacking half of the pitch. From outside the 18-yard box Miller curled a ball over Parker and into the inside netting for her first career goal.

Two minutes later in the 78th minute freshman Gabrielle Brodie (Rolleston, Canterbury, New Zealand) took control of the ball about ten yards out and netted her first career goal.

The Wolves outshot Mars Hill 12-4 and Wolves goalkeeper Emily Rhoades (Buckley, Wash.) was forced to make only two saves. Rhoades now has two clean sheets on the season and 19 in her career at Newberry.

Miller's goal gives her five points on the season

The Wolves continue their conference road schedule on Saturday at 2 p.m. when they travel to Tusculum to meet the Pioneers.
