Box Score WILSON, N.C. - With the help of a two goal performance by junior Ashley Reetz, the Newberry women's soccer team toppled the Barton Bulldogs 4-2 on the road.
Barton (2-8-0) scored early when Taylor Parrish's chip shot in the 4th minute found the back of the net. Newberry (7-4-0) countered in the 14th minute when junior Amber Chase (Aiken, S.C.) found Reetz (Charleston, S.C.) who whipped a cross into the box that was finished by freshman Mary Stanton (Greenville, S.C.). The goal from Stanton was her fifth of the season.
Less than a minute later senior Jesse Langdon (Raleigh, N.C.) found Reetz on the right wing. From the wing Reetz drove toward the goal and beat Barton keeper Carson Moore for her first tally of the season.
Newberry entered halftime with a 2-1 lead on the scoreboard and outshot the Bulldogs 9-6. The second half was more of the same as the Wolves outshot Barton 10-4.
The Wolves found the scoreboard for the first time in the second half when Chase scored off a rebound in the 53rd minute. Chase's goal was her second of the season. Parrish added a second goal for Barton in the 84th minute.
Reetz capped off the day for the Wolves with her second goal of the afternoon in the 90th minute goal.
Newberry senior Megan Hrenchir (Lawrence, Kan.) earned her first start of the 2011 season and recorded three saves on the afternoon.
The Wolves continue the 2011 campaign on Wednesday when they play host to the Catawba Indians at 2 p.m.
