Box Score NEWBERRY - A 4th minute blast into the upper 90 by junior Ashley Reetz set the tone early for the Newberry women's soccer team as the Wolves picked up a 3-0 victory over the visiting Erskine Flying Fleet.
In a match that saw the Wolves (10-6-0) dominate possession, Reetz (Charleston, S.C.) started a run toward the 18-yard box from about 40 yards. The penetrating run by Reetz provided enough space for the junior to place a shot into the upper corner of the goal from about 20 yards out.
Newberry added to its 1-0 lead in the 12th minute as an Erskine (6-9-0) defender redirected a ball over the Flying Fleet goalkeeper for an own goal.
The Wolves netted a second half goal to finish out the scoring as junior Cassie Smith (Spartanburg, S.C.) fed a pass to freshman Mary Stanton (Greenville, S.C.). Stanton took one quick touch before distributing the ball in front of the Erskine keeper that was finished by fellow freshman Brayden Miller (Lyman, S.C.).
Newberry outshot Erskine 28-2 in the match. The Wolves also collected 10 corner kicks to the Flying Fleets two.
Newberry goalkeeper Emily Rhoades (Buckley, Wash.) picked up her 20th career clean sheet without being forced to make a save on the afternoon.
The Wolves wrap the 2011 regular season up on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Wolves Senior Day will feature a conference match with visiting Carson-Newman.
