Stanton scores two as Newberry tops Brevard 4-2

Box Score

NEWBERRY - A three goal first half and a pair of goals by freshman Mary Stanton secured a 4-2 win for the Wolves over visiting Brevard College.

The Wolves (9-6-0, 4-4-0 South Atlantic Conference) posted their first tally in the 8th minute when Stanton (Greenville, S.C.) finished on a loose ball about eight yards out. Stanton added her 10th goal of the season in the 14th minute as fellow freshman Brayden Miller (Lyman, S.C.) slotted a through ball to Stanton who chipped a shot into the upper-90 from just outside the six-yard box.
Miller added a goal to her assist in the 35th minute when she scored off a Megan Douglas (Bradford, West Yorkshire, England) corner.

Brevard found itself on the scoreboard in the 43rd minute as a would be cross from Althea Dunn floated over Newberry goalkeeper Megan Hrenchir's (Lawrence, Kan.) head and into the goal. The Tornados added a second tally in the 47th minute as Carolyn Anderson chipped a shot over backup Newberry keeper Emily Rhoades (Buckley, Wash.).

The final goal of the match game in the 53rd on what looked to be a third score for Stanton, the freshman's shot was flicked aside by Brevard backup keeper Crissy Moran and finished by senior Jesse Langdon (Raleigh, N.C.).

Both Miller and Langdon's goals were their third of the season.

The Wolves outshot Brevard 26-9 on the afternoon.

Newberry returns to action for a home non-conference tilt with Erskine at 3 p.m. on October 26.
