Box Score NEWBERRY - The Newberry women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision at home to conference opponent Catawba on Wednesday afternoon.
Catawba (3-8-0, 2-3-0 South Atlantic Conference) notched the first goal of the afternoon in the 26th minute when Amy Iwanicki ripped a shot from outside the 18-yard box that ricocheted off the underside of the cross bar into the back of the net. Newberry (7-5-0, 3-3-0 SAC) surrendered a second goal when Erinn Wescoat intercepted a stray Newberry pass and took a shot from 20 yards out that found its way into the far side of the goal.
Catawba outshot the Wolves 9-8 in the match.
Newberry goalkeeper Emily Rhoades (Buckley, Wash.) recorded two saves in the match, while junior Ashley Reetz (Charleston, S.C.) managed three shots.
The Wolves return to action on Saturday at 2 p.m. when they play host to No. 9 Lenoir-Rhyne.
