Box Score MURFREESBORO, N.C. - Two Nathan Arroyo goals helped push the Newberry College men's soccer team to their first win of the season as they cruised past Chowan 4-0.
After heading into the half 0-0, the Newberry (1-2-1) senior Arroyo (Atlanta, Ga.) punched in his first goal of the game just past the diving arms of Chowan (0-3) goalie Scott Cullen in the 58th minute to give the Wolves the lead.
Arroyo then assisted freshman Shane Robinson (Charleston, S.C.) in picking up his first goal in a Newberry jersey before putting in his second goal of the game on a Joshua Mercadel (Fort Mill, S.C.) cross to put the Wolves up 3-0 in the 86th minute.
Arroyo then returned the favor, giving Mercadel an open shot on goal after one of the Wolves' 13 corner kicks in the 89th minute to put the game away, 4-0.
Newberry took a season high 34 shots during the contest, doubling its previous high of 17 shots against Mars Hill, 15 of which were on goal.
Goalie Patrick Sweatt (Indian Land, S.C.) played the full 90 minutes in goal saving two shots.
The Wolves will look to string together wins as they head to Greenwood, S.C., Wednesday, Sept. 15, for a showdown with Lander at 7 p.m.
