Wolves drop defensive battle, 1-0, to Erskine

Box Score

DUE WEST - The Newberry College women's soccer team dropped its third straight game as the Erskine College Flying Fleet took a 1-0 win, capitalizing on an early first half goal.

Newberry (2-9) fired off 12 shots during the first period but couldn't land one in back of the net before Erskine (4-8) forward Kimrey Angotti-Smith (Goose Creek, S.C.) took a deep pass from teammate Casey Craft (Anderson, S.C.) in the 24th minute and put it past Wolves goalie Emily Rhoades (Buckley, Wash.) for the eventual game winner.

The Wolves took 12 of their 17 shots on goal but failed to crack Flying Fleet goalie Si'Ara Washington (Mt. Pleasant, S.C.) who saved all 12.

Senior Christen Chestnutt (Debary, Fla.), junior Megan Douglas (Bradford, West Yorkshire, England) and freshman Bianca Warder (Irmo, S.C.) each took two shots on goal during the loss.

The Erskine defense held tight in the second half, holding Newberry to just five second period shots. The Flying Fleet took just six attempts during the game, five of which were on goal.

Rhoades played the length of the game for Newberry in front of the net, saving four.

Newberry will continue its five game road trip as the Wolves travel to Salisbury, N.C., to take on South Atlantic Conference opponent Catawba this Wednesday, Oct. 13, at 4:30 p.m..
