Box Score BREVARD, N.C. - The Newberry College men's soccer team failed to hang on to a one goal lead as they fell, 2-1, to South Atlantic Conference opponent Brevard College.
Newberry (1-12-2, 0-7-1 SAC) senior Nathan Arroyo (Atlanta, Ga.) scored the game's first goal at the four minute mark, taking a Joao Delgado (Atlanta, Ga.) cross and chipping it past Brevard (2-12-1, 2-6-0) keeper Jack Shaw (Simpsonville, S.C.) for the 1-0 Wolves lead.
The Tornados responded, however, tying the game up with a Henri Erti (Kangasala, Finland) unassisted goal that ricocheted off of a Newberry defender just before the half.
Jaime Villacis (Miami, Fla.) then sent in the game winner for Brevard as he weaved his way through the Newberry defense and beat Wolves goalie Patrick Sweatt (Indian Land, S.C.) for the 2-1 Tornados win.
Newberry was outshot 18-12 with Brevard taking nine shots on goal compared to the Wolves' two. Arroyo led the offensive charge for Newberry with five shots and two on target.
Sweatt saved a total of seven shots for Newberry during the team's seventh straight loss.
Newberry will wrap up its regular season schedule on Saturday, Oct. 30, as the Wolves head to Jefferson City, Tenn. to take on Carson-Newman at 4 p.m.
