Fowler's blast gives Wolves 1-0 win over Brevard

Box Score

BREVARD, N.C. - After dropping its previous two games by last minute goals, the Newberry College women's soccer team turned the tables on Brevard College as Amberly Fowler (Greenville, S.C.) punched in the game winner in the 67th minute to give the Wolves the 1-0 win.

The Newberry (4-11, 4-4 South Atlantic Conference) senior took a pass from teammate Lora Moore (Raleigh, N.C.) from 20 yards out and sailed it over the head of Brevard (3-12-1, 1-7 SAC) keeper Crissy Moran (Franklin County, Va.) for the game winner.

The shot was one of three Fowler took on the afternoon and her only one on goal. Emily Rhoades (Buckley, Wash.) held down the fort for the Wolves in goal, saving all four Tornado attempts during the contest. The Wolves took a total of 19 shots during the win, eight on goal, while holding Brevard to just six.

Fowler led the Wolves with her three shots with Ashley Reetz (Summerville, S.C.) taking three as well. Christen Chestnutt (Debary, Fla.), Meagan Heney (Ajax, Ontario, Canada) and Jesse Langdon (Raleigh, N.C.) each finished with two.

The scarlet and gray will wrap up their non-conference schedule as they host Pfeiffer for senior day this Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 3 p.m.
